.The trail states its approx 4.5 mile walk, but we found by the end of it we had explored some caves and rolled down hills it was more 6-7 miles as the kids love to explore off track a little.
There was a field with cows in to pass when we walked but it is a popular trail and the cows were not fazed. You can also park a little closer near Peveril castle facing the pub but limited and often busy.
From the car park entrance turn left along the main road then turn right into Castle Street. With the ruined Peveril Castle ahead, cross the Market Square (left) to the less than obvious entrance of Cave Dale. This is to the right, just off Bargate.
You are now in the valley and the path is easy to follow, it rises gentle but quite rocky in places.
We followed the path to a gate junction where we turned right and headed down Whinnats pass making it a nice circular.
We stopped off at the caves for ice cream, before heading back to the car.
