There are various routes up to Pendle Hill, we have walked this route many of times when we only have a couple of hours spare, its a quick steep walk with fantastic views and well maintained paths

The simplest and shortest route to the trig point is from Barley Lane, north of Barley village. There is plenty of roadside parking there most of the time, but sunny days and holidays can get busy.

You will see a road going over a cattle grid towards the farm, follow this road for a short distance and at the farm you will see a gate on your right, once through the gate there is two paths, one too the right is stone steps to the plateau and the one to the left is loose stones, we have sometimes used the path on the left to decent making it a short circular.

The steps rise steeply but plenty of places to stop and rest, once at the top of the steps you follow the well maintained path straight ahead to the summit Cairn, it takes 30-60 minutes form the parking to this point if use to walking or maybe 1.5 hours with smaller legs.

The summit has amazing views and plenty of places to sit and have a picnic before the decent down.

You can return the same way.

When at the summit you will see the various paths in other directions to the trig point.

For a Longer walk you can park at the Nick of Pendle car park ( free) The nearest postcode for those using SatNav is BB7 9HN, from here cross the road and take the obvious path which is longer but gentle incline throughout and views over the reservoir below.
